Mt Albert Toastmasters club held a mock wedding and invited the local community. They wanted to have fun and demonstrate Toastmasters skills.
Everyone got dressed up as if for a real wedding – there were flowers and flower girls; an “official photographer”; cake; a celebrant; a walk down the aisle after petals were sprinkled; and two of our members (James and Amy) got “married” over a during the moving two hour ceremony.
The father of the bride was appropriately emotional about everything.
Vowels (rather long ones) were exchanged. Not all was plain sailing though, as there were a number of dramatic objections from audience members – including the groom’s mother who wanted him to marry his ex (who was also there and just happened to have a white dress with her).
Finally, the fetching (and good humoured) couple were married. There was cake! And, naturally, speeches from both wedding parties.
The evening ended with a classic wedding boogie after the first dance. Guests said they felt like they were at a real wedding. All had a truely great time!
