If you’re coming all that way to Taupo, why not stay a few more days and see the sights? Especially those the locals have as well-kept secrets.

If you’re travelling south on State 1 and the car’s a bit thirsty, the Gull station at Atiamuri will give it one of the cheapest drinks in the country. While in the area, check out Te kōhatu o Hatupatu if you like a good legend. Its a couple of kilometres past the Bull Ring.
