As part of initial promotion of the new District, a large team of Toastmasters ran an event at the Waipuna Hotel, Mt Wellington to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous public speaking marathon by a team. It wasn’t easy….learn more

First Annual Awards night for the District, with some extras......

Shortly before the Awards night, honouring those who achieved during the 2018-2019 year, we learned we had a World Record from “Run the Red”! Speech marathon organiser Rob “007” Wightman proudly displays a Guinness World Record certificate gained from the April “Run the Red” event, while Murray Coutts prepares the next one….learn more

Maungakiekie Toastmasters sponsored a speech marathon coinciding with World Speech Day and District Training

The March District Officer Training and Executive Meeting at the Waipuna Hotel would be the last such for a while. Alongside the training, Maungakiekie Toastmasters sponsored a speech marathon designed for the longer “Success-Communication” projects required to gain the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award at the time. The session added perhaps six DTMs to an impressive tally.

May 9th to May 11th, 2020
New Zealand went into its first COVID lockdown on March 23, 2020, leaving a very short time to organise online events, including the District Conference.

With only a short time to organise an online conference – including learning the software – the District was fortunate indeed to have the services of Troy Smith. While most of us were still asking “What’s Zoom?”, Troy acted as the focus of what turned into a highly innovative conference. Read more about this conference

With the knowledge there was no guarantee that the conference would go ahead in person the committee forged ahead anyway. We were right, there was no guarantee – the Delta variant took New Zealand by storm, requiring a second full lockdown. That, however, did not stop us putting the conference together. After all, its only scary the first time round. Several international speakers chipped in, notably Darren La Croix, 2001 World Champion

We're back! "Return of the Toastmaster" comes to Parnell

The road back to an ‘in person’ conference wasn’t easy, because many venues were nervous about cancellation at short notice. Not so the Parnell Conference Centre, who were delighted to see us…….Join in the fun

The Toastmasters Accredited Speaker Award demonstrates a combination of subject expertise and speaking skills. Lauren is the 95th recipient but only the sixth from outside North America.

Toastmasters turned 100 in October, 2024 - a long way from the establishment of the first club in Santa Ana, California.
