District 112 Annual Conference, Hamilton, May 2019
A first conference for a new District will always be a special event in the history of that District. This page aims to capture what made up the “special” – photos, presentations, memories – because the serious stuff is covered in the District Meeting Documents. As the first conference, it also aims to provide a blueprint for later conferences. Click the links below for the various sections – and if something has been missed or you have ideas about layout or a memory you’d like to share, please let us know on our Suggestions Page. You can find additional photos on the Conference Facebook Page.

Edited extracts from Conference Newsletters
Since the launch of the 2019 conference in May this year at Waipuna in Auckland, your organising team has been hard at work. We are focussed on the details, making this occasion a memorable first conference for District 112 that is affordable to all.
The organising team comprises
Conference Chair – Ross Kennedy
Registration – Nicola MacKenzie
Secretary – Susan Boubée
Treasurer – David Phillipps
Venue and Hospitality – Georgie Templeton
Social and Contests – Katrina Hudson
Technical and website extraordinaire – Joe Burrows
All four contests will run at this conference. Table topics is scheduled for Friday afternoon, Evaluation Saturday morning and the Humorous Contest will be part of the Saturday evening entertainment. The International Speech contest will be held on Sunday morning – this will be the first contest with the need to be videoed as a requirement from Toastmasters International.
Speakers and workshop presenters
We have a great line-up of speakers:
Lark Doley DTM – International President
A Toastmaster for 25 years, Lark Doley is a member of two clubs, including her home club in Pflugerville, Texas, the Arthur Storer club that was chartered in honour of her father-in-law after his death in 1997. Lark has held a number of high-profile leadership positions within Toastmasters and has attained the Distinguished Toastmaster designation—the highest level of achievement in the organization.
Lark says, “I have used my improved communication and leadership skills to found and lead a successful company. I now have the privilege to work for a company where I use my skills daily to teach others.” Surely well qualified to take us through our potential from our New beginning.
Lark will also run a workshop for all of us. You can find a biographical interview in the Toastmaster magazine at https://www.toastmasters.org/magazine/magazine-issues/2018/sep2018/16-interview
Toni Sharpe QSM, DTM – District 112 Director
Toni will take a Key Note speaking slot. It is the first year as a new District, and I know she has a great story to tell. Toni is steering the ship through the rippling waters of our first year as a new District, I’m sure there are anecdotes to describe our New Beginnings Toni can share with us.
